IR Remote Tab

The Extron IR 402 is an optional handheld device that provides infrared (IR) remote control of the:

  • System 5 IP switcher

  • MLC 226 IP controller

  • SCP 150 or SCP 226 Secondary Control Panels

  • Input / Output devices (VCR, DVD, projector, display, etc.)

Because you have many choices for the input / output devices connected to your A/V network, the IR 402 Remote Control DISPLAY, DVD, and VCR  buttons are non-functional until you have selected a device driver for each input / output device and configured the Button Operations in the IR Remote tab of Global Configurator.

These general rules apply to configuring the buttons:

  1. The button captions (REW, PLAY, FWD, etc) are preset and cannot be changed.

  2. The Tool Tip field is not active in this screen.

  3. The repeat rate sets the time interval between repeats of the command if the button on the remote is held down.

  4. There are two different button modes for the IR Remote buttons:

    1. Single Switch (Default) Assigned one specific operation (ex. power on a device).

    2. Toggle Assigned two different operations for subsequent depressions of the same button.  If we apply the Toggle mode to a button, the initial press causes one action, and the next press causes a second action to occur.

  5. The graphical representation of the Remote Control button panel shown here does not get displayed in the GlobalViewer graphical user interface.

To configure an IR Remote button:

  1. Select a button.

  2. Expand the desired device driver (click the + sign).

  3. Expand the desired device driver folder (click the + sign).

  4. Click and drag the desired function to either the Press or Release field.

In the example below the Play function is associated with the PLAY button in the DVD device driver.  If the IR 402 handheld remote control is pointed at the System 5 IP and the DVD PLAY button is pressed, the DVD player connected to the System 5 IP serial port will begin its play function.

A red triangle in the top, left corner of the affected button (1) indicates that the button has been configured.

Note:  All of the DISPLAY, AUDIO, VCR, and DVD button functions  must be configured here in the IR Remote tab for them to be operational.

The Relay, Time Delay, and User Defined tabs of the Button Operations section, allow you to add secondary button operations to each button.
