Panel Button Configuration Tab

The Panel Button Configuration tab is a graphical representation of a touchpanel's layout.  It gives you the ability to:

  1. Configure the operations of the touchpanel buttons.

  2. Configure the captions and functions of the touchpanel buttons that are displayed in the GlobalViewer® interface.

The Panel Button Configuration tab appears when a touchpanel port is selected in the IP Link® Tree window and functions include:

Adding a layout

To add a layout:

  1. Select the Pages tab and click Add Layout.  This opens a window listing the available layouts for the touchpanel.

  2. Click Import.  This opens an Import Touch Panel Layout window.

Note:   Import is not needed if the desired layout has already been imported.  If the desired layout is already available, follow steps 5 and 6.

            Click Where Used to view where the selected layout is applied.

  1. In the Import From section, select Touch Panel.

    1. Enter the name/IP address of the touchpanel in the Name/IP Address field.

    2. Enter the panel password if necessary.

In the Import From section, select Disk.  

    1. In the Path to Config field, select Browse to locate the *.tgz file.

  1. Click OK.  

  2. In the Available Layouts section, select the desired layout.

  3. Click OK.  This returns you to the Panel Button Configuration tab of GC 3.0 and the Pages tab is still open in the Touch Panel section.  The selected layout appears in the preview window.

Setting a button caption

To set a button caption:

  1. Select the Pages tab and select the desired page.

  2. Select the Button Properties tab and in the previewed page, select a button to be configured.

  3. Enter the top caption text in the Line 1 field (if desired).

  4. Enter the bottom caption text in the Line 2 field (if desired).

Note:  Captions appear in GlobalViewer® only and have no effect on the touchpanel.

Setting a button tool tip

A tool tip is a descriptive line of text that is displayed in the GlobalViewer interface when the cursor is positioned over a button.

To set a tool tip:

  1. Select the Pages tab and select the desired page.

  2. Select the Button Properties tab and in the previewed page, select a button to be configured.

  3. Enter the desired text in the GlobalViewer Tooltip field.

Setting a button repeat rate

The repeat rate is how quickly a button repeats its function if the button is held down.

To set a repeat rate:

  1. Select the Pages tab and select the desired page.

  2. Select the Button Properties tab and in the previewed page, select a button to be configured.

  3. Select a rate from the Repeat Rate drop-down list.

Setting button feedback

Note:  When a button is assigned to a group, button feedback no longer applies.

  1. Select the Pages tab and select the desired page.

  2. Select the Feedback tab and in the previewed page, select a button to be configured.

  3. From the Port drop-down list, select the port from which to get feedback.

  4. From the Command drop-down list, select the command from which to get status.

  5. From the On Condition drop-down list, select the condition to apply for the user-specified command.

  6. From the On Button State drop-down list, select the action to take when the button is in the On state.

  7. From the Off Button State drop-down list, select the action to take when the button is in the Off state.

  8. Click Save.

The functions of each tab are described in the paragraphs below.

Note:  Functions in the Button Operations (1) section are selected and moved to the Press (2) section or Release (3) section to be assigned to a button.  If a function is moved to the Press section, the function occurs when the selected button is pressed (either on the physical front control panel of the device, or in the GlobalViewer interface).  If a function is moved to the Release section, the function occurs as the button is released.

Note:  Changes to the GC file do not appear in the GlobalViewer interface until the GC file has been built and uploaded to the network devices.

Relay

The Relay tab in the Button Operations section gives you the ability to add relay-driven functions to a selected button.

To add a button function using the Relay tab:

  1. Select the Pages tab and select the desired page.

  2. Select the Button Properties tab and in the previewed page, select a button to be configured.

  3. In the Button Operations section, select the Relay tab.

  4. Expand the Relay function (click the + sign).

  5. Drag the desired relay function (On, Off, Toggle, Pulse) to either the Press or Release section.

Select the desired relay function and click one of the two green arrows to move the selected relay function to the respective Press or Release section.

Time Delay

When you add multiple functions to a button, you can insert a time delay between the functions.  The Time Delay tab provides the capability to add a delay period ranging from 1 second to 180 seconds to the Press or Release action of a button.

To add a time delay:

  1. Select the Pages tab and select the desired page.

  2. Select the Button Properties tab and in the previewed page, select a button to be configured.

  3. In the Button Operations section, select the Time Delay tab.

  4. Expand the Time Delay function (click the + sign).

  5. Enter the desired number of seconds (1 to 180) in the Wait field.

  6. Drag the Wait icon to either the Press or Release section.

Touch Panel

The Touch Panel tab in the Button Operations section allows you to add local functions for the touchpanel layout such as showing a page, hiding a popup, locking the panel, et cetera.

To add a button function using the Touch Panel tab:

  1. Select the Pages tab and select the desired page.

  2. Select the Button Properties tab and in the previewed page, select a button to be configured.

  3. In the Button Operations section, select the Touch Panel tab.

  4. Expand the desired function (click the + sign).

  5. Drag the desired button operation to either the Press or Release section.

User-Defined

The User Defined tab in the Button Operations section allows you to add button functionality that is not
pre-defined by entering ASCII strings or Extron Simple Instruction Set (SIS™) commands in the Command field and moving those commands to the Press or Release section.

For a listing of ASCII codes, select View ASCII Chart from the View menu.

To add a user-defined command:

  1. Select the Pages tab and select the desired page.

  2. Select the Button Properties tab and in the previewed page, select a button to be configured.

  3. In the Button Operations section, select the User-Defined tab.

  4. Expand the Internal SIS function (click the + sign).

  5. Click User Defined Command.

  6. Enter your desired ASCII command string in the Command field.

  7. Drag the user-defined command to either the Press or Release section.

Use the green Right Arrows to move the user-defined command to the respective Press or Release section.

State Control

The State Control tab in the Button Operations section allows you to add state control to a selected button.  You can set a selected button to a certain control state.

To set a button to a specified control state:

  1. Select the Pages tab and select the desired page.

  2. Select the Button Properties tab and in the previewed page, select a button to be configured.

  3. In the Button Operations section, select the State Control tab.

  4. Expand the desired control (click the + sign).

  5. Drag the desired control state for the button to either the Press or Release section.

Setting button modes

The options listed in the Button Modes drop-down list allow you to apply three different modes of operation for the buttons in your TouchLink™ Panel layout.

Button modes of operation are:

Single Switch

In Single Switch mode, the button performs the same primary function each time it is pressed.   This mode is the factory default state and is the opposite of Toggle mode, which is described below.

Toggle

In Toggle mode, you can assign two different actions to subsequent depressions of the same button.  If Toggle mode is applied, the initial press causes one action, and the next press causes a second action to occur.

To create a Toggle mode button:

  1. Select the Pages tab and select the desired page.

  2. Select the Button Properties tab and in the previewed page, select a button to be configured.

  3. Select Toggle from the Mode drop-down list.

  4. In the Button Operations section, expand the desired operation folder (click the + sign).

  5. In the Toggle section of Button Operations, select #1 as the Toggle state.

  6. Drag the desired button operation to either the Press or Release section.

  7. In the Toggle section of Button Operations, select #2 as the Toggle state.

  8. Drag the second desired button operation to either the press or release section.

Group (x)

Note:  When a button is assigned to a group, button feedback no longer applies.

When multiple buttons are assigned to a group:

  • Only one button can be activated at a time.

  • When a button is activated, it de-activates any other currently active button.

To create a button group:

  1. Select the Pages tab and select the desired page.

  2. Select the Button Properties tab and in the previewed page, select a button to be configured.

  3. Select a group number from the Mode drop-down list.

  4. Select another button on the previewed page.

  5. Select the desired group number from the Mode drop-down list.

To return a grouped button to its original single switch state:

  1. Select the Pages tab and select the desired page.

  2. Select the Button Properties tab and in the previewed page, select a button to be configured.

  3. Select a Single Switch from the Mode drop-down list.

Clear, reset, or auto-fill button captions

The Clear button is used to clear all of the button caption text.

The Reset button is used to return button operations to their factory default.

The Clear and Reset buttons have the option to select "This button" or "All buttons on this page."

The Auto Fill button is used to configure all buttons with pre-determined button operations as defined by the associated device driver.

Feedback

Note:  When a button is assigned to a group, button feedback no longer applies.

  1. Select the Pages tab and select the desired page.

  2. Select the Feedback tab and in the previewed page, select a button to be configured.

  3. From the Port drop-down list, select the port from which to get feedback.

  4. From the Command drop-down list, select the command from which to get status.

  5. From the On Condition drop-down list, select the condition to apply for the user-specified command.

  6. From the On Button State drop-down list, select the action to take when the button is in the On state.

  7. From the Off Button State drop-down list, select the action to take when the button is in the Off state.

  8. Click Save.
