Bass and Treble Operation

A tone filter, also known as a shelving filter, gives the ability to cut or boost gain evenly above or below a given frequency. The end-band shape gives the visual appearance of a shelf. Tone filters are generally applied to program material and are expressed as bass and treble control.

See the About Filters and EQ section for more information.

Modifying Bass and Treble Parameters

A bass and treble processor (BASS-TREB block) is located post-switcher and before the mix-points in the DSP signal chain for each output. The settings for these bass and treble processors can be overwritten or returned to the default values. These blocks cannot be removed from the signal chain.

To view the bass and treble parameters:

In the workspace, double-click the BASS-TREB block. Alternatively, select the block and press the <Enter> key. The Bass& Treble dialog box opens.

You need to disengage the Bypass option for each filter before the results are displayed in the response graph.

When you select a bypassed filter, it appears as a dotted line in the graph. The selected filter result and the frequency handle is indicated by the same color as the filter row in the Type and Parameters table. The composite response of all other filters is displayed in red.

To modify frequency:

  1. Double-click the BASS-TREB block. The Bass & Treble dialog box opens.

  2. Select the filter that you want to modify. To do so, either click the filter number to the left of the filter type or click the frequency parameter handle above the graph.

  3. Click and drag the frequency parameter handle left or right to the desired value.

To modify boost/cut:

  1. Double-click the BASS-TREB block. The Bass & Treble dialog box opens.

  2. Select the filter that you want to modify. To do so, either click the filter number to the left of the filter type or click the frequency parameter handle above the graph.

  3. Mouse over the frequency curve to be adjusted, in order to enable the grabber (hand) cursor. For the bass filter, this area is below the corner frequency. For the treble filter, this area is above the corner frequency.

  4. Click and drag the frequency curve up or down to the desired value.

To modify slope:

  1. Double-click the BASS-TREB block. The Bass & Treble dialog box opens.

  2. From the Slope drop-down list for the desired filter, select the desired slope value.
