Mix-point Gain

DSP Configurator provides control of the microphone mixer that is used to mix individual microphones to the line outputs. Each of the four mic/line inputs is connected to a mix-point for each of the six stereo line outputs. In general, mic mix levels are set relative to the source program material connected to the line output via the switcher matrix (see the Switcher Matrix Operation section) and also relative to other microphones. The default setting for mic mix-points is muted at unity gain (0.0 dB).

See the Optimizing Audio Levels section for more information.

Adjusting Mic Mix Levels

Mic mix-point behavior is as follows:

  • No mix information - A faint gray circle indicates that the mix-point exists but does not contain any mix information (the mix-point is muted).

  • Mix information - A solid teal circle indicates that the
mix-point contains mix information (the mix-point is unmuted). When one channel is mixed (either the left or right channel), one-half of the circle is shaded teal, representing the unmuted channel. The other half of the circle is faint gray, representing the muted channel.

  • Mouse-over - When you hover the cursor over a mix-point, the cursor changes to a hand tool.

  • Single-click - A single click brings focus to (selects) the mix-point. This is indicated by a dark green outline around the circle.

  • Double-click - Double-clicking the mix-point opens the Mix-point dialog box. The focus outline becomes light green for an open dialog box.

  • Multiple open dialog boxes - When multiple Mix-point dialog boxes are open, the mix-point for the most recently opened dialog box has a light green outline. The previously opened dialog boxes do not have a focus outline.

Mix-point Dialog Box Components

To open the mic Mix-point dialog box, double-click a mic mix-point. You can use this dialog box to adjust the mix levels to the left and right stereo bus. The gain range is -35 dB to +25 dB.

In the Mix-point dialog box, you can view the level or mute status of the mic input GAIN block. The reported information can be used as a reference when setting mix-point levels.

To mute the signal individually to the left and right stereo busses, click the associated Mute button.

The Gang button couples the left-channel and right-channel faders and mute. Ganged faders move together at relative levels to the top or bottom. If one fader reaches the maximum value of the gain range, it retains that position while the other fader continues to move. When you adjust one of the faders in the reverse direction, the other fader reverts to its relative position. Clicking one Mute button will mute or unmute both simultaneously when Gang is engaged. The Gang button is shaded green when the two faders are ganged.

To adjust an individual fader:

  • Click the fader handle or click within the fader area.

  • Adjust the level using any of the following methods:

  • Click and hold the fader handle, then drag it to the desired level in 0.1 dB increments.

  • Press the <Up arrow> or <Down arrow> key to respectively increase or decrease the level in 1 dB increments.

  • Press the <Page Up> or <Page Down> key to respectively increase or decrease the level in 5 dB increments.

  • Click in the level text field (resolution is 0.1 dB increments) and enter a new value. Then, press <Enter> or press <Tab> to move to another area of the dialog box.

  1. Click OK to accept the changes and close the dialog box. Click Cancel to close the dialog box without saving any changes.
