Switcher Matrix Operation

Four workspaces are available in DSP Configurator when working with an MPX Plus 866 A. Each can be used to create a specific type of tie configuration. You can access the four workspaces from the View menu, via the <F2>, <F3>, <F4>, and <F5> function keys on your keyboard, or via the hyperlinks in the Legend section of a workspace.

Each workspace provides the facility to make ties in the following modes:

  • Audio & Video I/O - Audio and video ties are made in follow mode. DSP Configurator defaults to the Audio & Video I/O workspace when the application launches. This workspace contains all audio, gain, trim, volume, and audio DSP processor settings.

  • Audio I/O - Audio ties are made in breakaway mode. This workspace contains all audio, gain, trim, volume, and audio DSP processor settings.

  • Video I/O - Video ties are made in breakaway mode. This workspace contains the low-resolution video input, RGB delay, and video mute settings.

  • Console View - Audio and video ties are made in follow mode. You also have the option of making audio ties in breakaway mode.

See the Workspaces Overview section for overview information and images of the available workspaces.

Making a Tie in the Switcher Matrix

Use one of the following methods to make a tie in the switcher matrix:

  • In the workspace, click and hold a matrix input node, then drag the cursor to the desired output. A line appears between the two nodes, indicating a tie.

  • In the workspace, click and hold a matrix output node, then drag the cursor to the desired input. A line appears between the two nodes, indicating a tie.

  • In the workspace, right-click a matrix input node and select Connect to All Outputs from the
drop-down menu. Lines appear between the input node and all output nodes, indicating ties to all outputs.

  • From an input or output node in the workspace, press and hold the <Shift> key, then press the arrow keys to move to the desired output or input node. Afterward, press <Enter>. A line appears between the two nodes, indicating a tie.

Deleting a Tie in the Switcher Matrix

Use one of the following methods to delete a tie in the switcher matrix:

  • In the workspace, click an input node (or use the arrow keys to move to the node) to select it, then press <Delete>.

  • In the workspace, click an output node (or use the arrow keys to move to the node) to select it, then press <Delete>.

  • In the workspace, right-click a matrix input node and select Delete All Connections from the
drop-down menu. This deletes all ties.

  • In the workspace, right-click a matrix output node and select Delete Connection from the context menu. This deletes the tie from the output node.

Audio & Video I/O Workspace (Making Ties in Follow Mode)

DSP Configurator defaults to the Audio & Video I/O workspace when the application launches. See the Audio & Video I/O Workspace subsection of "Workspaces Overview" for the steps to access the workspace and to view the workspace layout.

Audio and video ties are made in follow mode when using the Audio & Video I/O workspace. In follow mode, when a video input is tied to a video output, audio ties are also made at the corresponding audio input and output.

In the case of computer video ties (VGA inputs), when a computer video input is tied to a computer video output, the corresponding audio ties will simultaneously be connected. For example, if Computer Input 1 is tied to Computer Output 1, then Audio Input 1 will also be tied to Audio Output 1. If Computer Input 1 is tied to Computer Output 2, then Audio Input 1 will also be tied to Audio Output 2.

In the case of low resolution video ties (composite and S-video inputs), when Video Input 9 is tied to Video Output 7 (essentially, the first video input is tied to the first video output), then Audio Input 9 will be tied to Audio Output 1. The following table shows the relationship of low resolution video outputs when a ties is made to that video output in follow mode.

Audio I/O Workspace (Audio Breakaway Mode)

See the Audio I/O Workspace subsection of "Workspaces Overview" for the steps to access the workspace and to view the workspace layout.

Audio ties are made in breakaway mode when using the Audio I/O workspace. In breakaway mode, audio ties are made independently of video ties.

Video I/O Workspace (Video Breakaway Mode)

See the Video I/O Workspace subsection of "Workspaces Overview" for the steps to access the workspace and to view the workspace layout. See the Video Settings section for information about video controls and functions.

Video ties are made in breakaway mode when using the Video I/O workspace. In breakaway mode, video ties are made independently of audio ties.

Console View Workspace (Ties in Follow Mode or Audio Breakaway Mode)

See the Console View Workspace subsection of "Workspaces Overview" for the steps to access the workspace and to view the workspace layout. See the Video Settings section for information about video controls and functions.

Audio and video ties are made in follow mode when you select the Video ties follow audio ties made here check box.

When the check box is cleared, audio ties are made in breakaway mode. In breakaway mode, audio ties are made independently of video ties.
